Beautiful fine press edition of the fifteenth-century French poet's works, one of 2550 copies. Printed in red and black, and illustrated throughout, with text in French. An unsentimental poet of great clarity and force, Villon held a special place for English readers, translated by Rossetti and Swinburne, and later championed by Pound. This collection contains his best-known poem, "Ballade des Dames du Temps Jadis," Villon's farewell to the beauties of the past: "Mais ou sont les neiges d'antan?" Fine condition, in a hand-painted vellum binding.
