Poetical Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson

London: Macmillan, 1899. Octavo, contemporary full calf gilt, maroon spine label, marbled endpapers and edges, seal of Katharine Lady Berkeley's Grammar School on front board. Lightest shelfwear. Item #100203

Handsome collection of the Victorian poet laureate's works. A label on the front pastedown identifies this volume as a Fourth Form English Prize for 1904. Highlights include "The Lady of Shallot," "Ulysses," "The Charge of the Light Brigade," "In Memoriam," "Idylls of the King," and "Maud": "Ah Maud, you milkwhite fawn, you are all unmeet for a wife. / Your mother is mute in her grave as her image in marble above; / Your father is ever in London, you wander about at your will; / You have but fed on the roses and lain in the lilies of life." A near-fine copy.
